Privacy
The short version: Squadsmith has no accounts, no analytics and no advertising, and your squads never leave your own browser. The one exception is the Buy Me a Coffee button, which is spelled out below.
Who is responsible
The operator named in the Impressum, who is the controller for the purposes of the GDPR.
What stays on your device
Everything you build — saved windows, lineups, transfers, custom players, your
own club, and your settings — is written to your browser's
localStorage under keys beginning twsim:. It is
never transmitted to us, because there is no server to transmit it to: Squadsmith
is a static site with no backend and no database.
You can erase all of it at any time from Settings → Reset all Squadsmith data, or by clearing site data in your browser. We cannot see it, and we cannot recover it.
Squadsmith sets no cookies. localStorage is used solely to make the tool work as you'd expect between visits, which is what German law treats as strictly necessary for a service you explicitly requested (§ 25 Abs. 2 Nr. 2 TDDDG).
Share links
The "copy link" feature encodes your squad into the part of the URL after the
#. Browsers never send that part to a server, so a link you share is
readable by whoever you send it to and by nobody else — including us.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc.). Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical connection data — including your IP address, the time of the request, the page requested, and your browser's user-agent string — in order to deliver the site and defend it against attacks. This is a legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. We do not receive individual-level analytics from this data.
The Buy Me a Coffee button
This is the one place where data leaves the page. Please read this section rather than skimming it.
The support button is the official widget from Buy Me a Coffee. Displaying it means your browser loads a script from cdnjs.buymeacoffee.com, and that script in turn requests a font from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com, operated by Google. Making those requests transmits your IP address to Buy Me a Coffee and to Google, and Google may process it on servers in the United States.
This happens when the page loads, before you interact with the button. Legal basis is our legitimate interest in offering a way to support the project (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you would rather it did not happen, a content blocker or script blocker will prevent it — Squadsmith detects that and shows a plain link instead, and nothing else about the site changes.
We receive no personal data from Buy Me a Coffee. If you choose to donate, that transaction happens entirely on their site under their privacy policy; we never see your payment details.
Player and club data
Squad data comes from football-data.org and includes the names, ages and nationalities of professional footballers — personal data relating to public figures, processed in their professional capacity for a clearly recreational and informational purpose (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Ability ratings, club strengths and market values are our own editorial opinions, produced by a published formula. They are estimates and expressions of opinion, not statements of fact, and are not derived from any player's private information. If you are a player or a representative and want an entry reviewed, contact us via the Impressum.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to processing of your personal data, and to data portability, using the contact details in the Impressum. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority.
In practice there is very little for us to act on: we hold no accounts and no user database. Data about your use of Squadsmith is on your own device, under your own control.
Changes
If the site starts doing something materially different with data — analytics, an account system, a new third party — this page will be updated before that ships.
